With the participation of 40 players from Yucatan, Chiapas and Campeche, the Third Cup of the Southeast of the Mayan Pok Ta Pok Ball Game was held in the municipality of Dzitbalché.
Athletes of the ancestral game gathered at the municipal field of the Barrio de San José in Dzitbalché to demonstrate the skill and emotion of this sport where the team from the town of San Pedro Chimay, Yucatán, who will represent Mexico in the Fifth, was the winner. World Cup to be held in Belize from December 7 to 10.
The trophy, made by artisans from Campeche through the State Institute for the Promotion of Craft Activities in Campeche (INEFAAC) was delivered by Esteban Hinojosa Rebolledo, General Director of the Institute of Culture and Arts of the Government of the State of Campeche (ICAECAM) and Roberto Herrera Maas, Municipal President of Dzitbalché.
Hinojosa Rebolledo thanked the commitment and participation of the young people, families and instructors. He mentioned that the Government of Layda Sansores is advancing firmly in the objective of giving our Mayan cultural heritage the importance it deserves and that a new phase has begun in which our ancestral roots are recognized and revalued.
Present at the ceremony were José Manrique Esquivel, President of the Central American and Caribbean Association of the Ancestral Sport of Mayan Ball and President of the Association of Traditional Games and Sports of the state of Yucatán, and William Moisés Chan Moo, President of the Association of Games and Autochthonous and Traditional Sports of the state of Campeche, important allies in the revaluation and preservation of the ball game.
