MEXICO.- The Mayan Train will travel 1,500 kilometers to the southeast and will connect Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Chiapas and Tabasco. The work could be finished in 2023 and now, from an interview that El Financiero conducted with Rogelio Jiménez Pons, director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur), it is known how much a trip could cost.
The inhabitants of the area where the Mayan Train route is located would have a subsidized ride. The section from Cancun to Playa del Carmen would cost 50 pesos a single trip for locals.
However, tourists could pay between 40 and 50 dollars, that is, 800 to 1,000 pesos. They would also have services like restaurants. The cost of the trip for tourists would be ten times higher than that offered to workers.
According to Jiménez Pons, it is intended that the trip does not exceed what a worker currently spends for their transfer and that is why they would subsidize the trip.
