MÉRIDA, Yucatán.- As a way for the population to be responsible for their health and citizenship, the Governor of Yucatan, Mauricio Vila Dosal announced that punishments will be imposed on people who do not respect the isolation measures once they have been diagnosed with coronavirus or presenting symptoms.

The state president indicated that the sanctions are up to three years in prison, as well as a fine of up to 86 thousand 800 pesos, this under the sanctions provided by the Penal Code and the Yucatan Health Law.

Likewise, those who violate the temporary closure of the premises or meeting centers imposed for this cause, will be subject to a fine of up to 86 thousand 800 pesos.

In addition, those who interfere with or oppose the exercise of the functions of the health authority or refuse to comply with the requirements and provisions of the State Government, may be deprived of their liberty, thereby causing a danger to people’s health.

Yucatecan society has shown a commitment to follow the recommendations. For the same reason, those who depart from this solidarity and attempt against the health of others will be punished.

Strengthening preventive measures has the sole purpose of protecting citizens and inhibiting contagion. This is:

Frequent hand washing
Using the inside of the elbow or a disposable tissue when sneezing or coughing,
Keep the healthy distance without waving, hugging or kissing
Reduce the exits of the houses to the indispensable
It is worth mentioning that the State Government has implemented measures to prevent contagion, such as the temporary suspension of massive events, so it was decided to close cinemas, bars, nightclubs, as well as gyms and sports clubs.

The State Government calls on the population to stay home and thus prevent and control the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus

The family member who has to go out, for work, to buy food or medicine, must do so without company. Also, take care of the elderly, pregnant women and people with disabilities, who are the most vulnerable groups.

Vila Dosal pointed out that the health of the Yucatecan population will not be allowed to be put at risk.
