After evaluating the effects that the tropical storm Cristobal has caused in state territory, Governor Carlos Miguel Aysa González instructed the Secretariat of Civil Protection (Seproci) to request the Federation to issue the emergency declaration for Campeche, in order to have the supplies necessary to enable the affected population to be cared for.
During the session of the State Council for Civil Protection, the head of the Seproci, Edgar Hernández Hernández, reported that the meteorological phenomenon has caused floods in homes and localities, as well as damage to land communication routes, public infrastructure and the agricultural sector . In seven municipalities, 13 temporary shelters had to be enabled to serve 719 people.
In the count of the damages to the road infrastructure, the SCT center reported that today the passage to all types of transport was restored in one of the lanes of the Escárcega-Xpujil road, which had been closed due to a collapse in the asphalt folder. ; while the Ministry of Education announced that it has already begun evaluating the effects on school sites.
After listening to the reports, the state president asked the Seproci that, due to the prevailing weather conditions, manage the declaration of emergency before the federal government to obtain the necessary supplies and attend to the affected population.
Right there, he expressed his appreciation to all levels of government for the commitment shown in meeting the needs, at the same time that he asked to redouble efforts and continue working as a team to protect people.
It meant that despite the damage to infrastructure and housing, it is important that until today there has been no loss of human life.
He urged state and federal officials to continue coordinating and not slowing down, since not only do we have to attend to the needs that arise due to weather conditions, but also strengthen strategies to combat COVID-19.

In his opportunity, the Secretary of Civil Protection, Edgar Hernández Hernández, explained that the slow trajectory of the tropical storm Cristobal over the state has left very important rains with their consequent damages throughout the territory, since according to Conagua data, from the Last weekend and until today, accumulated 384 millimeters of water were recorded in Calakmul; 397 in Ciudad del Carmen, 384 in Hopelchén and 311 in Bolonchén de Rejón.
He indicated that the rains have caused floods in homes, damage to communication roads, public infrastructure and the agricultural sector, and that as of today, 13 temporary shelters have been set up to protect 719 people. The shelters are attended by the municipal authorities, the Seproci has provided mats and personnel from the Ministry of Health apply the corresponding sanitary measures.
Of the 13 shelters enabled, in Hopelchén there are three with a total of 123 people; in Calkiní one with eight individuals; Escárcega has one in operation serving 51 inhabitants; Calakmul four with 320; Champoton one with seven victims; Campeche one with 80 and Carmen two with 130 people.
Regarding the effects on communication land routes, he pointed out that on the Dzitbalché-Xpujil state highway, between the communities of X-Canhá and Bel-Há, the passage is interrupted because the water washed a section of between 15 to 20 meters, and at kilometer 156 900 of the Escárcega – Chetumal federal highway, a section of the road was undermined in more than 60 percent of the folder, so the vehicular crossing was interrupted.
It also reported the landslide of a section of the federal highway Sabancuy-Isla Aguada; a cut in the section of the Machetazo-Cuauhtémoc highway in the municipality of Candelaria; the formation of a sheet of water in a part of the Campeche-Hopelchén highway, between the communities of Tikinmul and Cayal, while on the federal highway Hopelchén-Bolonchén, at the height of the Santa Rosa community, a sheet of water up to 15 centimeters.
In the Chunchictok-Ukum state highway there is no passage through the accumulation of water and the same happens from Ucum to Xmabén; the Chichonal-Felipe Ángeles highway was also closed to traffic and in Aguacatal the traffic is obstructed by a sheet of water.
He commented that although the state’s rivers do not present overflow risks because they are all below their normal maximum levels, it is necessary to maintain vigilance for water runoff that could occur.
Likewise, he stressed that the Army, the Navy and the National Guard carry out relief work for the population through the DN-III Plan and the Marine Plan.
For her part, the director of the state DIF System, Sonia Castilla Treviño, reported that in support of the vulnerable population, more than 25,000 pantries have been delivered throughout the state, 10,000 of them house-to-house, and specifically in the kitchen of the community center of the Siglo XXI housing unit has provided more than five thousand food rations.
The representative of the CFE reported that from May 30 to date the electrical infrastructure had an impact on 33,470 services, but 98.6 percent has already been restored.
