The beard and mustache were considered virus reservoirs.
Due to COVID-19 the way people relate will not be the same, at least for a time. The pandemic has led to the adoption of the term «new normal» and will be applied to different issues, such as returning to work, where measures will be taken to prevent the spread of the virus; however, for the peace of mind of several people, shaving off the beard and mustache will not be within those standards.
Days ago, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security published a series of guidelines that companies and industries had to abide by to get used to the ‘new normal’ and within them there was one that generated a lot of conversation: limiting the use of beards and mustaches, this being considered a virus reservoir, but in the end this measure has been eliminated.
On May 29, Luisa Alcalde, head of the government entity published the Specific Technical Guidelines for the Reopening of Economic Activities, which appeared in the Official Gazette of the Federation, and for the benefit of some and the surprise of others, limiting the use of beard and mustache does not appear within them.
In the tables corresponding to «Administrative or organizational measures», which all companies must apply, it is only established that «workers are informed that the use of accessories (jewelry, ties) can be a reservoir for viruses and other microorganisms» , but there is no specification on facial hair, which -in the first instance- appeared within the guidelines that indicated limiting its use.
As you can see, what remains is to limit the use of jewelry and ties. In addition, protocols such as taking care of a healthy distance, the use of mouthguards and antibacterial gel should be applied, and cell phones, kitchen utensils, stationery, etc. should not be shared among workers.
If you want to know all the guidelines that were established in the DOF for the reopening of economic activities, here is the document.
