CARMEN CITY-. As part of the coordinated actions that Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the Executive Power of Campeche established at the Table for the Construction of Peace, company personnel, the Secretaries of the Navy and Health, as well the Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks (Copriscam), verified compliance with the prevention and control protocol of COVID-19 aboard the Floating Housing Unit Reform (UHF), located 100 kilometers offshore from Island of Carmen.
The state health authorities arrived by air to the flotel, near the Pol-A process center, prior to the disembarkation of the last 64 workers staying at this facility located in the Zone of Campeche, in accordance with the preventive measures of the Phase Protocol. 3, implemented since last Sunday to reduce risks of contagion by coronavirus on oil platforms and facilities.
During the inspection, which lasted just over three hours, Captain Octavio Mortera Blancarte, in the company of the person in charge of international health in the Epidemiology Area of Sanitary Jurisdiction Number 3, of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the State of Campeche, Viridiana Arenas Gamboa explained that the medical services area was expanded as a preventive measure for immediately attention to possible contagion or suspected cases.
He mentioned that, to examine the health of the staff on the ship, there are now two doctors in charge of applying the pulse oximetry device (which measures the amount of oxygen in the blood) and taking body temperature to workers who disembark from the ship (51 from PEMEX and 13 from companies), as well the 96 crew members who will continue to carry out activities in the offshore flotel, which has a capacity of 500 guests in 108 rooms, to continue operating.
In addition, he explained that the medical consulting rooms has seven stretchers with their respective oxygen tanks and an isolation room in case any worker presents symptoms associated with coronavirus.
During the tour of the dining and kitchen area, the Copriscam sanitary verifier, Isaac Reyes Pacheco, confirmed that the ship has the updated certificate of pest control and its cleaning logs, as well the necessary quantity of products perishable and dry.
He also supervised that the process of potabilizing and purificación of water is adequate for the consumption of the crew and that the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, such as healthy distances, the application of antibacterial gel and the use of face masks, are being applied in all areas of the floating housing unit.
The medical authorities toured the areas of cinema, television, games, gymnasium and command bridge to corroborate the sanitation work that the cleaning staff constantly carry out.
Similarly, they reviewed the application of health protocols, the doctors of the Naval Hospital of Ciudad del Carmen, Diana Nava Salmerón, and of the General Hospital of Pemex, Manuel Sánchez Mendoza.
