Washington.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced today the agreement with the Government of Mexico to reduce non-essential crossings between the two countries at the border, due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
The president explained that the restriction will start from this Saturday, March 21.
According to the US president, these restrictions are to reduce the risk of COVID-19 in both countries, which will not affect the economy.
It was pointed out that those who need to travel between borders to work will not be affected either.


Donald Trump affirmed that Mexico agreed to suspend flights from Europe to secure the border they share in the face of a coronavirus pandemic.
«Mexico is taking steps to increase its southern border and is suspending travel from Europe to people who were trying to enter Mexico to reach the United States,» he said at a press conference.
Trump said that on the border with Mexico non-essential travel will be restricted, but legal and commercial travel will not be prevented.
«Working new rules at entry points, suspending non-essential travel, legal and commercial travel will not be prevented,» he said.
For his part, the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, recalled that travel is also restricted with Canada and the measure will take effect as of midnight today.
Meanwhile, Chad Wolf, Acting Secretary for Homeland Security, specified that travel for medical, educational and commercial purposes will be allowed.
