The Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, reported that Mexico officially entered Phase 3 in the health emergency derived from the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
«In summary, today we want to start phase 3 of the Covid-19 epidemic, we are in a phase of ascent where there will be an increase in infections and hospitalizations,» said Undersecretary Hugo López-Gatell.
He explained that this resolution occurs because in the country there are four regions that exceed 1,000 cases and in central Mexico there are more than 4,000
The Government of Mexico, which has so far reported 8,772 infections and 712 deaths from the outbreak, estimates that the maximum peak of infections will occur around May 10 and last week extended the measures of house confinement and suspension of activities not essential until May 30.

López-Gatell Ramírez assured that the proposals of the group of experts were presented to the General Health Council, among which was to increase the Sana Distancia Day until May 30 and in municipalities with low transmission it may be until 17 May, which were unanimously approved.
However, the official warned that there will be an early limitation of Sana Distancia measures in some regions, only if the transmission is controlled, Hugo López-Gatell said.
“The measures of the Healthy Distance Day in phase 3 are the same; the guidelines cannot be lower in any state and the governors must guarantee their compliance, ”López-Gatell said.
The Undersecretary of Health insisted that the companies of non-essential activities should suspend work to avoid Covid-19 infections, «especially in phase 3.»
The Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, called on the companies that still keep their work active: «Stop doing it to avoid the spread of the coronavirus» and reiterated «everything will be out of conviction, nothing by force.»
The president also announced a «who’s who» for next week of companies that are failing to comply with sanitary measures. «Maybe that is more effective in actions,» he said.
López Obrador assured that Mexico is prepared to «face the most difficult times», asked the population to remain calm and follow the recommendations of the specialists.
He urged to maintain discipline, because «There is little to come out of this pandemic, fortunately there has been no lack of control, everything is going according to plan, according to what the technicians and specialists have projected.»
The head of the Executive reiterated the importance of the family to face the epidemic, as well as the fulfillment of the preventive measures, in addition to the solidarity and fraternity that they have shown of the Mexicans.
«This is going well, but what we have achieved has been by the support of the people, by the exemplary behavior of Mexicans. It has already been said many times from the beginning that this epidemic was not cured only in hospitals, but in homes That we were all going to beat it together, as we are doing … let’s continue in our homes, that we continue to take care of ourselves, that we take care of the elderly, the sick, that we continue to be helped by employers while still paying their workers. That it continues to be evident, that we continue to set the example of solidarity, of fraternity as it has been expressing itself at this time and that the healthy distance that we continue is kept. What does Phase 3 contemplate?
It contemplates thousands of cases, with regional outbreaks and a possible national dispersion.

López Obrador took the opportunity to give a message about the country’s situation in the face of the world crisis that is expected due to the drop in the price of oil.
«With the fall in the price of oil, there is an aggravation of the world economic crisis that will certainly affect us. However, I want to give the guarantee, the assurance that we Mexicans will be able to face this crisis, on which I base my optimism : in the strength of our country, in the strength of our people, this is fundamental.
To also say that we have sufficient financial and material resources, that we have to lay hands on the crisis, because in the time that we have been managing to save resources by not allowing corruption and by carrying out, by making an austere government, no frills, no extravagances, we have enough reserves and we are going to adjust our expenses in the government, without firing workers, no worker in the service of the State is going to lose his job, but if we are going to reduce the cost of government to society even more and this is going to allow us to recover more funds, the money is not going to stay in the government but it is going to continue being transferred to the people, the formula is efficiency, honesty, austerity and justice, ”said the Mexican president.
