The Lambda variant was first detected in Peru, and later spread to Ecuador and Colombia. And with it they add at least nine variants of SARS-CoV-2. Of these variants Delgado Carrillo announced that they have been diagnosed in at least 96 patients in the same state of Colima.

Twenty-three cases of those confirmed in Colima are of the Delta variant, 13 of the Alpha variant, 10 of the Gamma variant and one more of the Lambda variant. All of them are of particular interest since they are the variants with the most transmission possibility.

The Secretary of Health and Social Welfare indicated that they expect a considerable increase in infections due to the dispersion that exists with respect to the aforementioned variants. To date, 23 thousand 282 cases of COVID-19 and one thousand 647 deaths from the same disease have been confirmed in Colima.

If there is special attention in the Lambda variant of COVID-19 it is because, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), it could be more resistant to vaccines. However, the CEO of Pfizer said they do not rule out this, in addition to other equally high-risk variants may appear, so he believes they should be ready.

But studies in this regard are still under development.

In Colima, both the Regional University Hospital and the General Hospital of Tecomán present 100% occupancy in their beds with ventilators. Another four more hospitals are also alert because occupancy is between 82 and 73 percent.
