CAMPECHE GETS READY TO RECEIVE FOURTH IRONMAN 70.3

Mexico once again hosts the best events and now the city of Campeche, Campeche will receive the fourth edition of the Mazda IRONMAN 70.3 Sunset that will take place on March 15, 2020, in search of creating a unique experience for athletes and assistants.

In the presentation, which was attended by Mr. Mauricio Zavala, Director of IRONMAN 70.3 Campeche @Sunset, the Secretary of Tourism of the state of Campeche, Jorge Manos Esparragoza and the President of the Mexican Triathlon Federation, Eng. Jaime Cadaval Baeza explained that the main objective is the promotion of sport and the dissemination of state culture throughout the world.

Campeche, which will be just the fourth headquarters in Mexico that hosts this event after Cozumel, Monterrey and Los Cabos, will have as its main attraction that the event will be held at sunset, since, according to Mauricio Zavala’s words “it will create a unique sensation among the athletes «.

The competition will consist of 1.9 kilometers of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.0975 kilometers of running with a time limit of 8:30 min since the last athlete enters the sea in the Rolling Star mode. The prize pool will be 25 thousand dollars for the elite category and 65 age category slots to participate in the World Championship to be held in Taupo, New Zealand.

The Austrian Michael Weiss, four-time World Xterra triathlon medalist, will be the main attraction in the Ironman 70.3 in Campeche.

A year ago Weiss won the men’s test in front of the Belgian Pieter Hemmeryck and the American Ben Hoffman, while in women the Canadian Heather Wurtele won in front of the Americans Jacalyn Hering and Lauren Brandon.

Zavala explained that this year the event will coincide with the Latin American Triclubs Championship, in addition to granting 40 places for men and 25 for women for the New Zealand World Cups.
